Marble is perfect in its imperfection…
Sincèro from the Latin SINCERUS, that the ancients said consisting of SIN-E without and CERA wax, and therefore frank, pure, without faking, not artificial, not forged…referred to a person who speaks and acts following and expressing what one feels and thinks, without pretending or faking and without reluctance.
In ancient Rome it used to be common practice to hide fractures in the marble of statues by introducing some wax in the cracks in order to conceal the defect and therefore give the impression of perfection. However the most valuable works of art were not touched up, leaving them “sin-cera” (without wax) as evidence that beauty does not necessarily reflect perfection and that a sincerity of soul and intentions has a much greater value than a false perfection.
Marble is unique and does not repeat itself; everybody tries to imitate it but marble does not wish to look like any other material
Marble is natural and cannot be manufactured. It can only be worked.
Marble is recyclable and can always be re-used. The object that you see one day may become gravel, mosaic, opus incertum, road foundation or just an element to produce other products.
Unlike other materials it ages well; over time this natural stone acquires charm and does not survive events. It rather passes them down.
