Tribute to the traditional Lizzatura of the marble blocks: the “PARATI”

Lizzatura is an Italian word to describe a method of transport, used since the beginning of the fourteen century by Carrara’s quarrymen to slide the marble block just extracted, from the quarry yard known as “il Poggio” to the yard downstream. To carry out these maneuvers, the expert men who made up the team of “lizzatori” used various tools including the “Parati” small wooden planks that were placed under the block, perpendicular to the way down and added to the front as the load dropped, allowing it to slide without crossing obstacles. The historical Lizzatura is for the city of Carrara an event full of traditions that take place every year in the evocative setting of Ponti di Vara.

Cure & Maintenance

Marbles, stones, granites, onyxes and travertines are 100% natural products. Any surface imperfection must be considered intrinsic characteristics of the product that make it unique and certify its authenticity.
The surfaces of our marbles have been treated with a special product which allows them to be less attackable by external agents.
Nevertheless, prolonged contact with liquids (wine, vinegar, lemon, acids in general) and oily substances (creams, lotions or perfu-mes) could create stains, even permanent. We suggest if it happens to remove them in a timely manner. However, it is not always possible to remove them, especially if the external substance is very aggressive, for example, the colour release of turmeric or basil leaves when crushed.
In the case of a natural material such as marble, we prefer to consider it not a defect but a value, because it is through their use that we leave those traces that contribute to making the object more “ours” to differentiate it from any other.
We do not recommend using abrasive brushes, sponges or acidic cleaners as it can have an irreversable affect on the surface. We suggest using soft sponges and p h neutral detergents. After washing, dry with a cotton cloth, the color may appear different, so it will be necessary to let the absorbed water evaporate naturally.
We are at your disposal for any questions or concerns. you can also contact Fila Solutions directly.
